I recently installed a black hood pin appearance kit that I purchased from American Muscle.
Here are some pic's. I apologize for the dust, water spots, bad sunlight, etc.
I considered buying real hood pins (much less expensive) but I decided against it for several reasons:
1. I didn't want to drill my hood (at least not at this stage in the game).
2. I don't trust the stability of the potential mounting points, namely the locations of the rubber hood stops in the engine bay.
3. I didn't feel like tearing the radiator shroud area apart just to see if I could get access for real hood pins.
4. I didn't want to pay a body shop to do the work for me, with real pins.
What I like about these is that by mounting the lanyards in the grille/headlight mount area instead of the hood, it spared me from drilling the fiberglass hood, and it actually made them somewhat functional. Of course I wouldn't ever want the hood to fly up, to see how well the 3M will hold under speed, but if that ever does happen, the lanyards are not likely to fly away with the hood. This hood is supposedly designed to handle any speed I can throw at it anyway, and remain seated with the stock hardware.
My local body shop (the one that had performed my body mods and paint matching) works with 'Stangs and 3M all the time. They assured me that stuff holds with the grip of Godzilla. The only time they've ever seen it separate is in collisions, even in the blistering cloudless sun we get down here.
I did have to drill the lanyard eyelets a bit bigger so the grille/headlight assembly bolts would feed through them. And no, the washers don't lay completely flat. Still, I'm happy, and she ain't going to any car shows for prizes. Again though, sorry for the dirt and bugs.
