This is a follow up to my previous post... I had some stuff on the shelf in my garage for a while... Replacement headlight assemblies with clear side marker lenses, (See picture... for the price, really outstanding quality and fit,) and JDM Astar LED marker/turn signal switchback bulbs and resistor harnesses.
This will be my first and last foray with JDM Astar. The bulbs look OK, and the brightness and color are acceptable, but the bulbs are poorly made. The contact "tangs" are not properly seated against the plastic part of the bulb, and have a tendency to twist when you pull the bulb put of the socket.
The real crap is their resistor harnesses. First, the male end of the harness does not fit well into the OEM headlamp housing harness, or my new aftermarket housings.
Second, the bulb socket, shown in tan,) is improperly keyed. It just has 4 almost identical little tabs at 90 degrees to each other to insert into the housing and turn about 45 degree to get the socket to stay in the housing. I guess you're just supposed to pray it doesn't vibrate loose, or put a dab of RTV on it. The OEM socket, (shown in black,) has 2 small tabs and 2 large tabs. Each large tab has an over-center lock and a stop so the socket cannot vibrate out of the housing.
I do realize they're going for "universal fit," but this is just unacceptable. I've ordered what I needed from Diode Dynamics, and ill post pics of the completed mod when I get the replacement bulbs and resistors.
As far as the "mod" itself goes, it was fairly easy and didn't require removing the grille all the way. I didn't do a step by step with pictures, but ill be happy to do a step by step write up if anyone wants to know.
