I'm sure in the great scheme of things, this will all mean nothing, but I'm old school....I write letters to entities whether I'm pleased or displeased, so GM is going to get one as soon as my extended warranty is up, which is about another 4 months or 7000 miles.
Let me first get something straight.....I do not fault the local dealer at all for this. They have great people and great service; but they're position is always to tow the "corporate line," and I will reinforce my knowledge of that in my correspondence.
For months I have been complaining about rough idle, and I think it was coincidental with "de-Lew-tuning" the truck to take it in for recalls and warranty work, but I am not 100% sure.
With the truck parked at operating temperature you could open the hood and see the engine shake slightly, almost "rhythmically" every few seconds. Sitting in the truck in Park I could feel it in my seat. Stopped at a traffic light in Drive I could feel it as well.
Took it in to the dealer at least twice. They checked everything, (supposedly,) even though there were no codes, and even suspected perhaps a motor mount. It wasn't and I already knew that.
Duh! They hooked it up to the laptop, checked everything, and even told me they compared the parameters to two other trucks, and everything was within tolerance and/or the same. They also told me that my truck idled better than most. (Pinocchio didn't make me feel any better.) Still convinced the idle sucked, I tried a couple of tankfuls with SeaFoam added in. No help.
Finally after the incident with my I3, and getting a warranty replacement from Powerteq, I finished Lew Tuning yesterday, except for the WOT check in a few days.
I'm going to say that you cannot even feel the truck idling now. Sitting at a stoplight in drive, I have to look down at the Tach to make sure it's running. Smooth as silk.
It really unnerves me to know that these fixes are available easily, but essentially ignored, and don't really care about the "why's." I respect all of Lew's hard work and years of research and testing in his product. It's beyond compare. He is the true Da Vinci of tuning.
When I send the letter off and get a response, I'll be sure to post it. I don't expect anything earth-shattering, just want to see what they have to say.
