So, I started out early this morning to change my headlight assemblies to clear marker light lenses with switchback LED bulbs. I purchased the headlight assemblies on flea bay for $150 for the pair, and oddly enuf they appear to be of decent quality and everything fits well. The caps/covers interchange, so I didn't have to rest Ill the new caps to accommodate the LED headlight bulbs.
I purchased the bulbs and resistor harnesses from JDM Astar. The switchback marker bulbs are OK, have good illumination and fit well in the light cavities. The resistor harnesses to prevent hyperflash, however, are a different story.....(I bought this all in January and finally have time to do the work.) The first problem is that the bulb sockets on the resistor harnesses are "universally keyed." In other words, there is no large tab/small tabs that fits into the bulb socket so it twists and locks. You just have to put it in where it fits, turn it about 45 degrees, and hope it stays put. I thought I could live with that, until immediately after plugging everything in, and turning the lights on, the resistors got super hot, and couldn't be touched. I shut everything down, switched polarity and tried again......No difference. Needless to say, I pulled them out, reinstalled the bulbs without the resistors. Of course, now I have hyperflash. I can live with it for a while until I get either just resistor harnesses that will work with these bulbs, or new bulbs and resistor harnesses.
