Just installed a catch can bought from K5. Was hoping it included a mounting bracket as it was confusing to me if it included a bracket as it says necessary bracket included than shows the bracket at the bottom. I called them but there phone help no longer exists because of covid. So I got a CC & no bracket and did not want to wait another week for the bracket plus its $50 plus ship so I made my own bracket. $10 bar stock at Lowes drilled some holes painted it there I am.
The 2 pcv ports on the engine measure 12 mm on the valve cover and 19 mm ID on the mani. K5 nicely included the bigger hose for the manifold outlet side. Went to an Auto parts store for the pcv hose and bought a 2 foot piece of 12mm id for $3. Fit perfect.
Installed the can and car actually seems to run better after the install that's a pretty good placebo effect lol but the engine does run good and no issues. Anyway, nice can but based on what I see when i removed the hoses I don't think I will catch much in it.
I see very little oily deposit in the hose at 31,000 miles. I bought it at 27,000.
I can see when i remove the oil cap and look in the valve cover it looks spotless in there very shiny clean steel looks mint in there. Usually when I buy a used 4 banger I will pop the valve cover off and see how well the car 's oil has been taken care of but jesus taking the valve cover off on this car is a big deal. The GDI high pressure fuel pump goes through the valve cover and is foreign to me and not sure how hard that is to R&R so I will not go there just to see what it looks like in there.
Its my first GDI engine and love the power this thing has but know its a maintenance pain. But whoever owned the car before me took very good care of it.
Anyway CC very easy to install. Hoping it helps. I run REDLINE 5-30 engine oil so i dont expect much in the CC. We'll see.
Btw, if your going to work on your car engine, and your paint is nice protect it go to Harbor Freight and buy 2 fender covers there really cheap. See pic. They have magnets in them that lock to the fender and work very well to protect the fenders and nose.
