Hey Everyone! Well recently I added a sub, amp & line control to my 2012 Silverado w/ Bose system. I have a buddy with a stereo shop, so they helped with the project.
I asked where they normally mount amps in trucks. The installer said normally mount under the seat or behind the seat. Mounting behind the seat requires extra labor costs to remove the seat. Also I have a rear factory slider window, so there are regulator and access doors back there. I didn't want it under the seat because I would loose storage space. My sub box is mounted under the passenger side seat and loosing storage under both seats was not an option for me.
The installer had the idea to install everything under the seat. There is a large metal frame under the seat. First attempt we used a 3/4" MDF and mounted the amp to that. We initially just wedged the board behind the frame. This worked for a bit. But after one trip to Costco with the seat in the up position, I realized the MDF was too heavy. Seat popped down while driving and a few screws came loose.
After some thought I used a piece of 1/4" oak plywood. Normal plywood would have worked fine, but the oak was the right size for my purpose. Another issue with the MDF was, it moved around because it wasn't secured. I had the idea to use a 1 1/2" plastic P clamp. The hardware store had these for 50 cents each. I used 4 - one on each corner of the board.

After mounting the board, I realized I needed more bite for the screws. I cut 2- 1" x 10" strips of 1/2 plywood and used this as a backer when screwing in my amp. The Audiocontrol was light enough there was no issues with just screwing into the 1/4" plywood.
So all done it works great and is light enough for the seat to stay up. Went to lunch with some friends and one guy sat in back over this setup. Said he couldn't tell and seat was comfy.
