So I've been doing an engine rebuild on the back burner now for about a year and a half, and I just got everything put back together and I had some electrical issues. After researching it turned out to be minor corrosion on the engine-to-body ground, killing communication to the CAN network from the OBD2 port. Sanded it and everything works now, and it's all back together but I wasnt able to pull data for Blackbear to get an initial startup tune because I didn't have the time last week. So the battery sat connected for about 3 days. It's a brand new Optima I just bought about 2 months ago. I go to pull the tune file and the battery is completely, entirely dead. Like, nothing. My meter doesn't even read voltage on it. I had no electrical issues before, and I went over the entire harness. Everything is where it's supposed to be. My CTEK MXS 5.0 doesn't even detect that it's connected to a battery.
There are only 2 things different from before I started this rebuild.
1- I don't have the downstream O² sensors hooked up, because it no longer has any
And 2- I have a Nelson's Performance efan harness kit I had installed, and have not yet enabled Efan controls on the ECM. I thought that was the problem with my electrical system initially, so I disconnected it. So as of now, it's just 2 capped off wires on the ecm. Which shouldn't have any effect.
Has anyone else had any power leech after rebuilding? And what are some causes?
I'm a commercial electrician but this automotive stuff is way outside my wheelhouse.
Any help is appreciated. I want to get this thing running again.
