Here I will post a brief how to/comparison for the tail light mod I did today.
Factory:
- Small 194 running light, 25.13 lumens, 0.27 amps, 14 volt, 3.8 watts.
- 3057, larger running light, also blinker/brake light, 402/25 lumens, 2.1/0.48 amps, 12.8/14 volts, 26.9/6.7 watts.
- Reverse same small 194 bulb.
Set-up before new bulbs and conversion:
- Same small 194 running light.
- LED 3057, 24 led's, "500" lumens, .15 amps, 14 volt, 3.0 watts.
- Reverse light rewired to two LED COB DRL strips mounted next to license plate.
- "Old" reverse light on tail light was new blinker/brake, "150" lumens, unknown amps, 14 volts, unknown watts.
Current set up:
- larger 912 running light, 150.8 lumens, 1 amp, 13 volts, 12.8 watts.
- 3457 Sylvania Bulb for brake/running light now, not used for blinker at all, 503/38 lumens, 2.1/0.59 amps, 12.8/14 volts, 26.9/8.3 watts.
- "Old" reverse light, currently a cheap red led, on the way is a 800 lumen, unknown amps, 12.8 volt, 3 watts.
- Reverse light rewired to two LED COB DRL strips mounted next to the license plate.
Using a Tow Ready 118158 Trailer Light Converter, it takes input from left turn/brake, right turn/brake and a ground, and outputs it to a brake, left blinker, right blinker using resistors and a relay.
By wiring this up I was able to achieve the following:
- Factory blinker, is now only a running light and a brake light.
- "Old" reverse light is now strictly a blinker and that is all.
Using the supplied double sided sticky tape I stuck it to the inside of the rear bumper.
Here are some comparison shots I took, I'll get some nighttime shots later tonight.
