If you put HIDs in the Low Beam Projectors, you should have a read...
I recently installed 5000K HIDs in my Low Beam Projectors, and I didn't want to be "That Guy"... so I rented a zip car and drove around my parked CT (with 35W HID) to figure out how much glare there really is... and my findings are as follows:
- There is zero / minor glare traveling towards the CT (with a +5 feet gap between the cars).
- There is minor glare traveling toward the CT (with less than 5 feet gap between the cars).
- There is medium glare (not as bad as trucks / suv with HID or HID installed in reflectors) via the Driver side mirror when CT is directly behind (most noticeable between 0 and a distance of 20 feet)
- There is the same glare in the rear view mirror and passenger-side side mirror, however they are far less annoying when driving.
Summary:
- You don't have to worry too much about oncoming traffic.
- You should drive more towards the passenger side of the road (when safe to do so) to avoid blinding the driver directly in front of you.
- If there's stop and go traffic, stop close to the car in front of you (pretend you're in NYC).
- If there's little traffic and there's a guy in front of you, pass him / her quickly to avoid lingering in their mirror.
The glare that I did get isn't so annoying that I have to put up my hands up to cover the side view mirror or not look at the rear view mirror, but there's definitely some glare when using stock Low Beam Projectors.
PS: I will do some additional testing when I get my LEDs, and see if putting LEDs in the Low Beam position will be any better (without sacrificing the amount of light)
