Carvionics? Mods

Audio And Sound System Upgrades / Head Unit written by @avionics12 Hybrid (Toyota Highlander 2021)

Avionics has been my career field of work. I've never heard a portmanteau for car electronics so I made one up. 😎

When I'm not shredding the tires off of my Highlander I am installing Carvionics that I have done in the past or ones that I learned here on TN. Below are the results...

The arrow points to a wireless phone charger/magnetic mount. It swivels and rotates so I can adjust the view for the rare times I need to use the phone. Unfortunately this particular mount is no longer available, however when I need to replace it I may try a Scoshe MagicMount Charge 3.

The left arrow points to the charging cable for my phone wireless charging mount in the above photo.

The second from left arrow points to a Carlinkit 2.0 wireless CarPlay adapter. I used 3M VHB to attach it to the top of the cubbyhole and mounted the wiring to the top behind the Carlinkit. I have not paired my phone to the Highlander since CarPlay does all I need.

The second from right arrow points to the angled USB cables for the USB C Carlinkit connection and phone wireless charging mount.

The right arrow points to an Anker USB Car Charger Adapter. Having this restores the power functionality taken from the left two USB outlets. The USB ports emit a very soft blue light that matches the Toyota interior lighting.

The left arrow points to a Valentine One Gen 2 Radar Detector. I used a 3D printed mount from Shapeways. The print quality of this mount is incredible and the mount swivels and rotates. I used the same 3M VHB tape described above. An installation tip I learned about VHB tape; Clean the glass with alcohol and dry with a microfiber cloth, wait 30 mins. Line up and press the mount in the desired position. Wait at least 48 hours before attaching the device to the mount. Using this method I have yet to have anything come loose from glass, however there is always a first time! 😀

The second arrow points to a Thinkware U1000 DashCam briefly discussed in Posts #33-#37 of this thread.

One last photo...

The arrow points to the Climate option button which I used to access before every trip to turn off S-Flow. I used Carista to turn S-Flow off until such time as I feel the need to re-enable it via Carista.

I am now down to two one remaining mod to complete; forward cup-holder LED lighting and removing the Qi charger from the front console box. Eventually I'll finish research in TIS to complete those.

I researched and used mods from many threads on TN, especially those by tr0n, pimpin-tl and other Highlander post contributors. Thank you to these folks and all of you on TN who make this a more pleasurable experience.
