S550 6 Pistons Installed

Brakes / Brake Calipers written by @Usmc148 5.0! (Ford Mustang 2012)

Good Morning. Well I got my car back on Friday, the hood looks brand new, and now I have a warranty on the repair should the rot return!!! I installed the brakes yesterday. It was the easiest mod that Ive done so far. It is a true bolt on. The bigest pain in the neck revolved around securing the brake line to the chassis. To review I went with S550 track pack calipers, GT500 rotors, and stop tech stainless steel lines. Im utilizing the stock pads to break in the new rotors and them Im switching over to Hawk ceramic pads.

The question, will these fit under Brembo/Track pack wheels. NO. The Calipers barely touch the inside fiace of the rim. Im currently running a cheap universal spacer that I got from the parts store. Nice 5mm hub centric spacer made for the Mustang will arrive via Amazon tomorrow. Currently 3/8" of stud is showing through the wheel, 1/2" is the standard. The 5mm spacer should alow for atleast 1/2' of thread to show. For Boss and 2009-2012 GT500 owners apparently this combiation of parts works with all 19" wheels that those cars came with. I just ordered the S550 15" rotor which has a different offset, im interested if it'll eliminate the need of a spacer. To be continued.

My buddy and I tried to bleed the system, I couldnt get it perfectly firm. At the local Firestone getting the system bled.

I went with this kit becasue the price for the "box" kits is ridiclous. Ranging from 1500-2500 depending on if you get the rear brakes too.

Cost:

S550 Calipers -560

GT500 Rotors - 140

Stoptech SS Lines - 90

Hawk Pads (optional) - 110

Total - 900

The size difference Is hysterical compared to the standard GT 13" disc, The huge 15" disc and monster caliper actualyfit inside the wheel just fine. The inside diameter of the wheel alows for plenty of space between the caliper and the wheel weights. The inteference is between the face of the caliper and the hub of the wheel requiring a 5mm spacer, Im wondering if the greater offset of the S550 rotor will fix that. More on that to follow.

If you get a factory GT500 line you will have to mill of this raised portion of the caliper. The stoptech lines come with a Goodridge style mount not needing any modification.

A portion of the inner fender needs to be trimed as it covers the Stoptech provided chassis mount.

Installed, SEXY!!!

Still need to break in the rotors, some impressions latter after I get the brakes bled.
