Hi !
I just finished the install of a ATOTO A6 entertainment unit in my wife's 2004 Avalanche 1500 after the factory radio
unit cd player died. Got a really good deal via Amazon (of course) and one of their merchants.
The price went down a few days after I got my unit. Eh! Live and buy better next time.
The AT0T0 A6 unit is a Android based unit. It does not have a built-in cd/dvd player.
But, it does have sd 256GB limit/usb/WiFi/BT/GPS availability with a 16GB built in memory for local use.
A couple of USB inputs, 2 (mini)SD card inputs, a GPS antenna connection, a WiFi antenna input,
AM/FM radio antenna adapter (GM really makes this complicated to add a different radio or antenna)
It also has a AM/FM radio with output via the old truck speakers and standard BOSE amp.
A Really nice double DIN sized touchscreen with extra control buttons at the bottom.
You have to use a Scosche GM2000A or GM2000SW mounting kit which includes mounting brackets, adapter plugs,
a safety chimes adapter ( the GM2000SW includes an adapter module for the Steering Wheel inputs. The "A" version
mentions another adapter you can add to get the Steering Wheel inputs on the "A" version).
The GM2000SW has a module and a wiring harness to add the Steering Wheel buttons to the new radio.
That's what the the "SW" designation is for.
The Android head unit display works like most smartphones and or tablets. You have to use the Android Play site to
add more applications or updates to the device.
I setup my Samsung Phone as a hotspot and used it as a gateway to log into the Google/Android Play to download
more apps whilst tooling on down the road. Or you can pull into a local "Free WiFi" area to update or download via the
Google Play web source (highly recommended).
The WiFi antenna is really sensitive.
The GPS app uses the Google Maps app (already downloaded). It can also use the Wayz app.
The Torque app is already loaded if you want to see what your Avalanche is doing under the hood. You will have to
get a Torque Bluetooth adapter to plug into the OBD-II connector under the dash to use that app correctly.
I also hooked up a backup camera that displays who is there when you put the truck in reverse.
There is an input for a Forward Dash camera and an icon to have it displayed
I'm very happy with the results. This Avalanche came with Sirus-XM and GM OnStar built in. Hardly used them.
These options are no longer available with the GM radio gone.
But, I can install the Sirus-XM Android adapter version if I want to get it back . . . why would I want that?
Same for the GM OnStar.
I do have a problem with the rear view mirror not displaying the Temp/ Direction anymore. I think I unhooked a wire
when I ran the GPS antenna cable.
Otherwise I am a happy camper with this setup.
