I was tired of using the cupholder for my phone or having to reach in the coin tray for it for common actions. The suction cup window mounts are to far, and the vent mounts aren't sturdy. So like many others have done, I sucked it up and got the Pro-Clip phone mount. So far, I've been extrmely satisfied. I don't have factory Bluetooth or Factory Navigation so I usually use an earpiece or the AUX jack for in car phone calls, Pandora, and sometimes ESPN TV.
For navigation we've used our trusty Garmin Nuvi or my HTC Evo 4G LTE.
Many phones include a native app called Car Mode or Car Dock, if your phone doesn't feature it, you can easily download a free app. One of the most popular that I've seen if called Car Mode Ultra.
The benefits are that the four most commonly used features are displayed in large buttons that are easy to use. The navigation intergrates your appointments/to-do's from your calendar so all you have to do is click the next appointment and navigation directs you there as well as providing the maps view in sattelite/hyrbid view with traffic. And like most phones, if you're listening to music the navigation audio directions will interrupt the music to give you directions.
Since I also uploaded my entire music library to Google its avaiable from the cloud at any time in the car. Car mode also automatically activates Bluetooth and the screen won't go dim or timeout.
I've asked around and I found that many of my friends weren't aware of the benefits of these apps so I thought I share. My wife calls it my command center, especially at night, lol.
Below are a couple photos of the mount and a few screen shots of some of the features in Car Mode.
