I didn't trust the guys at the oil change place so I decided to do my own. SO GLAD I DID! What made start questioning them was the dipstick would always show above Full. The tech said they put the right amount but I think they just dumped 5 quarts in which I think I pretty much proved myself by putting the correct amount and setting it go right to the F on the dipstick. Getting underneath I first noticed they decided not to put 2 of the screws back from the cover even after I noticed a $5 surcharge for the labor to remove the plate. And I'm pretty sure they didn't torque the filter and plug by how tight they were on. They also put in Castrol Edge synthetic 5W20 instead of 30. Sorry for these rant but I was pissed. And for this sub par work they charge $75 just for the oil change and filter and their "15 point check". Probably put watered down wiper fluid as it froze up during the polar vortex.
The oil on the left is their "Castrol" after 5500 miles. The oil on the left is what I put in myself Quaker State Ultimate durability 5W30 full synthetic. I know I should've changed the oil sooner but I was waiting for a nice fast such as today. I also put in a Wix 51334xp filter and Fram air filter.
I will change the oil again in 3000 miles this time as suggested in the manual for the turbo gdi under severe driving conditions which is what it mostly gets. Lots and lots of traffic, idling alot especially in cold weather, and driving around blocks looking for parking sometimes for almost an hour.
I will post what that oil looks like and if it's noticeably cleaner looking I will make that my interval or maybe keep it at around 5k to see if the wix filter maybe makes a difference in keeping the lik clean longer as I can't even find any specs on the filter in the pic. I believe it was called Tecselect.
