Last year I noticed that the paint on my hood hinges started to peel up on the hinges where they meet the hood. I was scared that water would get between the hood and hinge and rust the hood.
I bought some Mopar body match spray paint (billet silver in my case) and some Mopar clear coat spray paint.
My suspicions were correct because when I unbolted the hinges, I found that the hood was starting to rust. I sanded the hood under the hinge enough to get rid of the very light rust that had formed.
I then masked off the area around the hinge and covered the front of my Jeep with a drop cloth. I sanded off the loose paint then cleaned everything with a little rubbing alcohol. I gave the hood and under side of the hinges a few coats of the silver spray paint.
Once it was dry, I screwed the hinges back down to the hood and then sprayed the hinges with 3 coats of the clear coat. The body color Mopar spray paint is a very close match. Overall, it was easy to do and it came out great. Now I don't have to worry about my hood rusting under the hinges.
