I was doing some trail riding this past week in the Ouray and Silverton, CO areas. We drove Yankee Boy Basin, Clear Lake trail, and Imogene Pass trails. Portions of the trails were very steep on narrow cliffs and on loose rock.
I was driving in 4 low for much of these trails. I turned on the Hill Descent Control on the downhill portions and it really helps. I could completely take my foot off of the brake and just steer the Jeep as is slowly went down the trail.
A cool feature that I discovered is that when backing down a hill, it applies the brakes so you don't quickly roll down the hill. Someone in a side by side off-road vehicle had broken down and needed a tow so I was backing down the trail to use my tow strap.
I had the Hill Descent Control button on when I was backing down the steep trail and I could feel that the Jeep was applying the brakes and I backed up. The Jeep only went down the hill in reverse if I gave it the gas.
