Tahoe 4WD with a Supercharged LS9 V8: Monstrous Chevy SUV Became Even MORE Powerful

Performance Modifications / Engine Swap written by @ChevyGuy

Hey Chevy fans, take a look at this incredible 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe. It started life with a stock 5.7L Vortec V8, but now it’s packing a supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8 engine, thanks to the guys at Titus Will Chevrolet in Olympia, Washington. This swap took the power from 255 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque to a mind-blowing 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.

The LS9 engine comes with a dry sump system, custom fuel injectors and wiring harness from Spanky’s Rod Shop, and custom headers. They didn’t just stop at the engine - the drivetrain was beefed up with a 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, a GM Performance front axle with Driveshaft Shop level 5 axles, and a Dana 60 rear axle with a Detroit Locker diff and 3.73 gears.

The suspension got a serious upgrade too. It rides on a Superlift lowered setup with custom sway and traction bars, and stops on a dime thanks to Baer drilled and vented disc brakes with 14-inch rotors up front and 13-inch rotors in the rear. This setup not only makes it a powerhouse on the road but also gives it some serious handling capabilities.

I’ve got to give mad respect to the builder of this beast. Dropping in an LS9 crate motor, which costs more than a used Tahoe of this era, shows just how much love and dedication went into this project. It’s awesome to see this level of commitment and passion.

Modifications Breakdown:

Engine and Drivetrain: Supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8, 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, GM Performance front axle, Driveshaft Shop level 5 axles, Dana 60 rear axle with Detroit Locker diff and 3.73 gears.

Fuel and Electrical Systems: Custom fuel injectors and wiring harness from Spanky’s Rod Shop.

Exhaust: Custom headers.

Suspension and Brakes: Superlift lowered suspension, custom sway and traction bars, Baer drilled and vented disc brakes (14-inch rotors front, 13-inch rotors rear).

This 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe LS9 conversion is a true testament to what happens when passion meets performance. If you're into Chevys, this is the kind of project that gets you excited about what’s possible.
