Auxiliary power for LH side of dash, for dash camera, trailer camera, phone/mount with power or other

I wanted a trailer back-up camera to the far LH side of the dash, and think I found a good way if anyone wants auxiliary power for something like this, dash cam etc. etc.

I used a fuse tap, on the interior fuse panel that is just below the drivers dash area.

I chose the cooler/safe fuse for power, but the lighter fuse is also a good option. I ran the wire from this fuse panel, along the lower part of the dash, then behind the LH foot well kick panel, under the rubber door seal, then out were the A-pillar trim and upper upper dash come together (there's a groove just wide enough for a wire, then under the A-pillar trim, then up between that trim and the edge of the dash.

The below are the pics and details.

Fuse tap kit off amazon, with 4 taps, extra spare fuses, connections and puller for less than $7.00

To install the tap you need to pull the lower panel, above the foot well. There are only 2 clips, but the RH side clip is only in the soft plastic of the dash, so a puller tool helped, to prevent breaking the plastic, as mine was really a fight.

Once you get the panel down, you can move the panel out of the way, by unhooking the footwell light. There are two side tabs first to unlatch, then one in the front.

When this is removed you have easier access to the fuse panel the is up under the RH of the dash. I installed the fuse tap in the one for the cooler/safe, then with the wire running up under the dash, zip tied to an existing wire bundle going toward the LH door side.

I found a good ground location with a bolt that is just right of the OBD-2 port that I splice my cable to, then continuing on to the LH side.

The wire then goes behind the side footwell kick panel, coming out between that and the dash (there's a groove here), to go under the rubber the door seal. I made a loop of wire under the side kick panel, just in case I need more cable on top. The wire goes where I show the red dashed lines.

The wire follows up along the door seal bulb, coming out by the A-pillar trim starts and the dash trim stops. There is a nice groove here again, perfect for a small cable. I pushed the A-pillar trim in a bit so the wire is under the dash and comes up the side of the A-pillar trim.

Final picture of the trailer back-up screen powered up, and mostly out of the way!! This system allows me to have 4 wireless trailer cameras, but only plan to use the back-up camera. The wires are all hidden (except for the connector) and protected with a fuse at the tap.
